Testosteron is onmisbaar voor mannen, maar blijkt nu ook van belang voor de gezondheid van vrouwen. Het helpt de spieren sterk te houden en werkt libidoverhogend.
De productie van testosteron begint bij vrouwen normaal rond de puberteit en duurt tot de menopauze. Om hun libido in die periode toch op peil te houden, kiezen veel vrouwen voor een hormoonvervangingstherapie. Bij een standaardbehandeling worden enkel oestrogeen en progesteron toegediend, maar nu voegt men daar steeds vaker testosteron aan toe.
Toediening
‘Bij 80% van de vrouwen die een hormonenkuur volgen tijdens hun menopauze, voeg ik testosteron toe’, zegt de Britse gynaecoloog John Studd. ‘Het hormoon verbetert hun stemming, geeft hen meer energie en geeft een boost aan hun seksuele leven.’ Het hormoon wordt normaal toegediend door middel van een pleister op de huid, maar is ook te verkrijgen als zalf, gel of implantaat.
Bijwerkingen
Toch behoren de testosteronsupplementen nog niet tot de standaardbehandeling. Voorlopig mag het hormoon enkel toegediend worden aan vrouwen die een vroege menopauze doormaken nadat hun baarmoeder of eierstokken werden verwijderd. Voor andere vrouwen is het ook mogelijk, maar dan moet de behandelende dokter de volledige verantwoordelijkheid op zich nemen. Er is namelijk nog heel wat onduidelijkheid over mogelijke bijwerkingen, zoals acne, woede-aanvallen, een diepere stem of overmatige haargroei.
Geveinsde orgasmes in bed dienen niet om de gevoelige ego’s van de partner te beschermen, wel om hun onzekerheid over seks en angsten voor intimiteiten te verbergen, zo toont nieuw internationaal onderzoek aan.
Ongeveer 60 procent van de vrouwen veinst regelmatig een orgasme tijdens de coïtus of orale seks, zo blijkt uit onderzoek aan de Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Ook 25 procent van de heren speelt regelmatig dat hij klaarkomt. ‘Er is nog maar weinig wetenschappelijk onderzoek gedaan naar dit fakegedrag’, vertelt onderzoeker Erin Cooper.
Onzekerheid
De wetenschapper ondervroeg 366 vrouwen tussen 18 en 32 jaar. Veel van deze vrouwen beweren dat ze faken omdat ze onzeker zijn over hun seksueel functioneren of om een einde te maken aan de vrijpartij.
Opmerkelijk: er is een groep vrouwen die een orgasme veinst om de eigen seksuele ervaring te verbeteren. ‘Deze kleine subgroep van vrouwen hoopt al fakend hun eigen opwinding te verhogen’, stelt de wetenschapper. ‘Het is één van de vele middelen die vrouwen gebruiken om een positieve seksuele beleving te hebben.’
Verbonden
‘Faken kan ook een manier zijn om emotioneel verbonden met je partner te blijven. Als vrouwen niet over hun seksuele opwinding durven te praten, is doen alsof een manier om het vrouwelijk ego te redden. Vrouwen die moeilijk over hun gevoelens praten, hebben het doorgaans ook moeilijk om te communiceren over seks. Gevolg is dat ze zelden kunnen genieten van seks en dat kan funest zijn voor de relatie.
Goede communiceren en werken aan vertrouwen en intimiteit binnen een relatie, helpen om niet de noodzaak te voelen om te moeten faken.

Het leven wordt er niet makkelijker op in een huis vol smartphones, tablet pc’s en computers. Elk apparaat moet toegang krijgen tot je muziek, foto’s, films, documenten, mail en digitale kalenders. Natuurlijk kun je je telefoon met een kabel aan de tv hangen om foto’s op een groot scherm te bekijken. Of muziekbestanden via usb naar elk apparaat kopiëren. Maar waarom moeilijk doen als het via internet kan?

At a press event in Taipei this week, Redmond showed the next version of Windows, unveiling a dramatically overhauled tiles-based interface that they hope will be competitive in the tablet world. Microsoft marketing people must have gotten their fingers in this pie, because it’s called a “reimagining” of Windows. Win8 will run on all types of devices from small, touch-sensitive smart phone screens to traditional large-screen PCs, and Win8 can be used with or without a keyboard and mouse.
Basically, the screen looks just like the new Windows smart phone screen.
“The application comes quickly to life as Windows fades to the background,”
said Michael Angiulo, Windows Planning VP. “The tiles on the start screen are live — they represent your people, your applications, your contacts, the information you care the most about,” he said. “You can group them, arrange them and name them as you like, so that first start screen experience is really personal.”
Win 8 still also provides the normal Windows desktop and backward compatibility with existing Windows apps. Microsoft President Steve Sinofsky stated: “Windows 8 is example of coloring outside the lines.

“Planking,” the game of laying still, facedown on the ground in unusual places, has existed for a number of years, but it’s recently become a phenomenon in Australia and is now drawing lots of attention here in the United States. Over the weekend, this news report from an Australian network became popular here when it was picked up by American web culture blogs:
